【摘要】:Thispracticeprovidesguidelinesfortheapplicationofimmersedlongitudinalwaveexaminationtothedetectionandquantitativeevaluationofdiscontinuitiesinmaterials.Althoughnotallrequirementsofthispracticecanbeapplieduniversallytoallinspectionsituationsandmaterials,itdoesprovideabasisforestablishingcontractualcriteriabetweensuppliersandpurchasersofmaterialsforperformingimmersedpulse-echoexamination,andmaybeusedasageneralguideforwritingdetailedspecificationsforparticularapplications.Thispracticeisdirectedtowardstheevaluationofdiscontinuitiesdetectableatnormalbeamincidence.Ifdiscontinuitiesatotherorientationsareofconcern,alternatescanningtechniquesarerequired.1.1Thispracticedescribesproceduresfortheultrasonicexaminationofbulkmaterialsorpartsbytransmittingpulsed,longitudinalwavesthroughaliquidcouplantintothematerialandobservingtheindicationsofreflectedwaves(see).Itcoversonlyexaminationsinwhichonesearchunitisusedasbothtransmitterandreceiver(pulse-echo)andinwhichthepartormaterialbeingexaminediscoupledtothetestpartbyaliquidcolumnoristotallysubmergedinthecouplant(eithermethodisconsideredtobeimmersiontesting).Thispracticeincludesgeneralrequirementsandprocedureswhichmaybeusedfordetectingdiscontinuitiesandformakingarelativeorapproximateevaluationofthesizeofdiscontinuities.1.2ThispracticereplacesPracticeE214andprovidesmoredetailedproceduresfortheselection,calibration,andoperationofaninspectionsystemandforevaluationoftheindicationsobtained.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
