【摘要】:TheengineeringfunctionofmanyP/Mpartsmayrequireanexteriorportionoftheparttohaveahardenedlayer.Wherecasehardeningproducesadistincttransitioninthemicrostructure,metallographicestimationoftheobservedcasedepthmaybeusedtocheckthedepthtowhichthesurfacehasbeenhardened.1.1Ametallographicmethodisdescribedforestimatingtheobservedcasedepthofferrouspowdermetallurgy(P/M)parts.Thismethodmaybeusedforalltypesofhardenedcaseswherethereisadiscernibledifferencebetweenthemicrostructureofthehardenedsurfaceandthatoftheinteriorofthepart.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
